This week on the PGA tour we are heading down to Vallarta, Mexico where a not so stacked field will battle it out on Greg Norman’s signature course at Vidanta Nuevo Villarta. Jon Rahm headlines this tournament as a massive favorite, followed by the likes of Tony Finau, Abraham Ancer, Gary Woodland, and Patrick Reed. The course itself will include beautiful scenery along the Ameca River that flows into the Pacific Ocean with views of the Sierra Madres in the background. It will play long at almost 7500 yards and a par 71 (almost 7300 yards, par 73 for amateurs), but the course offers large fairway landing areas and uses Paspalum grass for its entire landscape.
If the wind decides to act up, this course could play hard and test these golfers. If not, it may end up being a Mickey Mouse birdie fest. I think the latter is more realistic. Some players I’m eyeing this week are Carlos Ortiz, Sebastian Munoz, Matt Jones, Aaron Wise, Satith Theegala, and Cameron Champ. This tournament is by no means one of my favorites on the docket for this season, so I don’t plan on being fully tuned in like most weeks on the PGA tour. However, I am excited to see how this course looks and which golfers are able to step up to the challenge. Best of luck!
